MILWAUKEE JOURNAL

WAUWATOSA, WISCONSIN

A 54-year-old man suffered serious bites to both forearms and both legs and lost genital parts when he was attacked by two pit bull terriers that had escaped from a fenced yard, according to Milwaukee police.

The man was taken to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa after being injured about 7 p.m. on Saturday in the 3900 block of W. North Ave. His condition was not available this morning.

The dogs were taken away by the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission, according to police.

District 3 Sgt. Peter Mulock said reports indicate the dogs have a history of escaping. He did not know what prompted the attack.

Mulock said police have not made contact with the dogs' owner, who would likely be ticketed in the case.

The investigation is ongoing.

The dogs are being held by animal control under rabies quarantine, according to the agency's executive director, Melanie Sobel. She said Milwaukee police and the city's Department of Neighborhood Services has a hold on the dogs. That means if an owner does come forward, he or she would have to go through those two agencies to have the dogs released.

Right now they are being held as strays, Sobel said. If they are not claimed after the 10-day quarantine, they will be "humanely euthanized," Sobel said.
