Yes I think officers should be allowed to carry off duty. I also agree if a crime happens while your off duty the best thing to do is call 911 and be a good witness, depending on the situation, an when uniformed officers arrive, you should I.D. yourself. Also let dispatch know who you are and you are armed. Use your judgment when getting involved. Remember is your family w/you can you alter the situation from bad to worse. As a peace officer we are on duty 24/7 but when where off we don’t always have the proper equipment to deal w/the current situation, also if you are going to drink leave you firearm at home. If you are out with fellow partners have the one not drinking armed only. When you drink your judgment gets impaired, don’t be stupid, remember how hard it was to get this job, is it worth losing over a few beers. Be Safe.
