Am I the only one that thinks this was not the best idea that he ever came up with? What if he had caused a pile-up? How many 'thankyous' would he have gotten then. Glad it turned out OK though.

det ret rpd narc: good job....
some cops do have compassion for animals and this officer certainly does. I am sure with his experience, he did it safely so that no accidents were a result of his actions.

Being a cop in the greater Seattle area, where we LEOs are often considered uncaring hard asses, I think Officer Carrell did a great PR shot for us all. Sometimes we need to show people that we are human and do care about the little things.Looking at the video he seemed to have the situation under control.

if the officer didnt to what was done, someone else would have complained that he just passed by,, or worse yet, someone would have swerved to avoid hitting the ducks and casued a big accident... so I say good job

I've watched idiots almost get run over for trying to get a turtle out of the road.

They're animals....not people. Their life is not worth 1/10th of that of a human.....don't risk your life for a DUCK!

It proves teh difference between Northwesterners and Texans. Down here we would have been leading them into canvass sacks to take home for dinner.

Here ducky, ducky.

Good for him!! There were no accidents, no one was inconvenienced for more than a few minutes, and it probably even brought a smile to a few faces of the other drivers.

I have heard it all now! Vehicle traffic stops for stop signs, red lights, pedestrain crossings, etc. What in the hell is so dangerous about stopping on the command of a law enforcement officer as required by law???

Do the job, appreciate the job, shut up with the "I don't want to do anything attitude" or go find another career! Have respect for those officers that perform the job in an admirable way!!

Officer Carrell made law enforcement look good for a change rather than doing something stupid that makes us all look bad!!

Good job Officer Carrell! And thank you!!

Smart Officer!! He probably saved tons of time from the later crash reports he would have most likely ended up doing. Instead he may have had the time time to do other things, like enjoy an un-interupted break.

This would have been a great "officer friendly" thing to do - 30 years ago before the libs and lawyers took over. Way to open yourself up for liability for no clearly good reason. Unwise, at best. smilies/sad.gif

Bodie: Great PR
But had a guy south of here hit and killed trying to get a hurt stary cat off road. I love animals but it's like the guy who swerves a $35,000 fully equipped patrol car off road to avoid a squirrel and ends up retired with a broken back.

Outcome here was good and image of officers positive.
I always think about OFFICER SAFETY FIRST.
So sorry if I disagree with this act of kindness shown some
ducks.

Great Job! He had it under control and I would hope most of us would do the same...Too many people think that our job is just about beating perps.

that looks closly similar to the conditions where the female officer's cruizer got demolished by a HUA driver. and shes lucky to be alive.

I'm sorry, but any one who thinks this cop did a BAD thing is a fool. We stop traffic for crime scenes, to clear debris, to avoid a HAZARDS! This was a HAZARD. Some idiot would have cause an accident trying to avoid the ducks. I, for one, am proud of what that officer did and many of us can learn a lesson here. WE are not cops just to arrest bad guys!!!!!!!!

det ret rpd narc: just as a follow up....
a morotcycle rider up this way got struck by a turkey on the highway and was severly injured. Now, if a trooper or police officer drove by and didn't try to remove the hazard and it was witnessed that they just drove by, and didn't do anything this guy would definately be suing the department. And if he didn't make it, his family would be suing us.

I agree with capt03, this definitely put a smile on my face; and I'd bet it did the same to ALL of the drivers who were present that morning. Come on, guys and gals. When we all face the "Last Roll Call", and stand before our Maker, THESE are the actions/inactions by which we'll be judged, NOT by how many things we did/didn't do to protect ourselves from being complained on or sued. I say, "Good Job, Brother Carrell!! You made us all look good that morning!!" Compassion for all God's creatures, great and small, is still a BIG part of "the Job".
