CBS Franklin, Wisconsin Was it a mountain lion? Police and state conservation wardens had no answer after a search of a suburban Milwaukee business park found nothing to substantiate reports of a large lion-like creature roaming the area Tuesday.
Police called the regional office of the state Department of Natural Resources about 2:30 p.m. to report a "large cat sighting, some sort of lion" in the area of the Franklin Business Park, DNR Warden Gervis Myles said.
Myles said he and another warden, equipped with shotguns and tranquilizer rifles, were sent to the area and a third warden was sent in later.
Police Capt. Clark Groen said employees of Electronic Cable Specialists had reported seeing an animal that resembled a mountain lion in some nearby woods.
Employees from General Automotive, another business in the park, told officers they too had seen the animal, Groen said.
He said one of the first officers at the scene saw a large cat-like animal.
Wardens later spotted a coyote, Groen said, but "the officer said the first animal he spotted was larger than the coyote that was later sighted."
A search continued more than two hours but found no traces of a mountain lion.
Police asked anyone with information about the sightings to call.
