The Oklahoman Bartlesville, Oklahoma A private Oklahoma college is offering one year of tuition and housing on the online auction site eBay. The offer by Oklahoma Wesleyan University had drawn more than 30 bids by late Wednesday, with the highest topping $17,600. The university estimates its offer is worth $23,000 for full-time tuition, room and board. Books are not included. Bidding began Monday, but had to be restarted early Tuesday after technical difficulties. It ends at 2:30 a.m. CST Feb. 13. Bob Myers, the university's executive vice president, said the eBay offer was intended to help a student who couldn't otherwise afford to attend Oklahoma Wesleyan University and also to gain publicity for the small evangelical college in Bartlesville. Myers said he's happy with the bidding, which he's "checking almost constantly” on his office computer. "We didn't know what to expect.” About 1,030 students attend the college, which offers 39 academic programs. Supported by the Wesleyan Church, the college promotes the slogan "A University where Jesus is Lord.” "There are many Christian colleges and universities that are more college than Christian,” Myers said. "That's the message we want to get out.” Myers said eBay workers said they don't know of any other college or university that has tried such an auction. Bidders can buy tuition for themselves or someone else. "We've had tremendous response,” he said.
