Police subdue two women yesterday after a crime spree involving shoplifting, a stolen vehicle and a chase across Burlington and Oakville.

Two women face charges after Halton Police put an end to a crime spree reminiscent of Thelma and Louise.

Police said the crimes, including allegations of theft and fleeing from police in a stolen car, happened after two women entered a Metro grocery story yesterday at 10:30 a.m on Eighth Line and Upper Middle Rd. in Oakville.

Sgt. Brad Murray said two women were seen shoplifting before they left the store and fled in a stolen vehicle.

"Uniformed officers arrived in the area of the Metro grocery store and checked the area. The vehicle was last observed in the area of Trafalgar Rd. and Hwy. 407," Murray added.

Police received another call at about 10:50 a.m. about a robbery on Guelph Line in Burlington.

"The victim indicated that two females had assaulted her and had stolen her vehicle," Murray said.

He added that police chased two suspects, who drove through Oakville before abandoning their car and running away.

Police made their arrests at 11:30 a.m. in the Ford Dr.-Royal Windsor Rd. area.

The two women, whom police didn't identify, are charged with theft under $5,000, theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police.
