WIRES

WASHINGTON, D.C.

U.S. Park Police continue to search for a stolen urn containing the ashes of a decorated U.S. Army veteran.

Park Police say the urn was stolen from a parked car in the 300 block of Jefferson Drive in southwest Washington on Nov. 12. The incident was first reported to D.C. police, but Park Police have taken over the investigation since the theft happened in their jurisdiction.

Park Police say the bronze urn has a cross on the lower right front.

The urn contained the ashes of retired Army Col. Norbert Otto Schmidt of Satellite Beach, Fla., who died Aug. 4. The 83-year-old's family went ahead with a burial service last Friday.

Police say a reward is being offered to anyone with tips about the theft or location of the urn.
