Stephen Wolf is paid to treat the sick, but police allege that it was Wolf, himself, who needed the help.

Wolf, an Oklahoma doctor, was jailed Monday for murdering his son after officers found the 9-year-old fatally wounded and the child's mother suffering from injuries incurred while trying to defend the boy, police said.

Wolf called his son the devil as he stabbed him, according to The Oklahoman.

The child was a third grader at Christ the King Catholic School, about two blocks from the Wolf home.

Police Chief Richard Mask said the first officers on the scene took a knife away from the 51-year-old Wolf. Mask said the child died soon after police arrived. The mother, Mary Wolf, was treated for puncture wounds to her hands and mouth.

Mask said investigators are trying to determine what prompted the attack.

Mary Wolf pounded on her neighbor's door for help. The neighbor called 911, and Mary Wolf then went back to her house and called 911 herself.

Stephen Wolf was booked into Oklahoma County Jail. A booking photo showed him with a bloody gash on his forehead that he apparently sustained when he banged against a cabinet as an officer disarmed him, Mask said.

He was being held without bond, and jail officials said they don't know if he has an attorney yet.

A telephone answering service employee said the office Wolf shares with other physicians was closed Monday.

Investigators think the boy was attacked in his room soon before the first 911 call, Mask said.

Wolf is a 1988 graduate of the University of Oklahoma’s medical school and a specialist in internal medicine.

Police Chief Richard Mask said that investigators are still trying to get "all the facts together" and that the death has had a "devastating" effect on 4,000-person city. Nichols Hills, an area of large, stately homes, is adjacent to Oklahoma City.

A police affidavit reveals new details in the murder of a 9-year-old boy.

According to a police affidavit, police arrived on the scene and entered the home of 51-year-old Dr. Stephen Wolf.

Wolf's wife, Mary, was saying "he's killing my son" as officers entered the home.

The affidavit states officers entered the kitchen of the home with weapons drawn and saw Dr. Wolf down on the ground near the dishwasher wrestling with something.  Dr. Wolf was repeatedly saying "He's got the devil in him and you know it" according to the affidavit.

Officers ordered Dr. Wolf to get down on his stomach.  Officers then noticed Dr. Wolf's 9-year-old son, Tommy, lying beneath him.  The affidavit states a knife was seen in the boy's head and one in his chest.  Dr. Wolf then stated, "He's not dead" and tried to grab one of the knives from the boy's body before and officer had to wrestle Wolf to the ground so he could be handcuffed.

The Wolfs' next door neighbor, Douglas Woodson, told officers Dr. Wolf had been going through trouble with his job and was under review with his hospital for anger issues.  Woodson also stated, according to the affidavit, that Dr. Wolf was supposed to be attending rehab for anger and alcohol abuse.

The state medical board said they are not aware of the review and Dr. Wolf has never had any disciplinary action during his practice. However, the board is aware of Dr. Wolf's history of depression, hospitalizations, and treatment.

"Lots of physicians have illnesses and injuries and things they have to live with and deal with. Depression is common so from the standpoint of being treated properly either through psychotherapy and medication, he certainly could practice medicine," said Lyle Kelsey with the Oklahoma State Medical Board.

Dr. Wolf is with Saints Medical Group. They could not give any information about a review, but did say arrangements have been made for other healthcare providers to care for Dr. Wolf's patients.

Nichols Hills Police Chief Richard Mask said officers were called to Wolf's home in the 1700 block of Elmhurst at about 4 a.m. Monday.

Dr. Wolf is being held without bail on a first-degree murder complaint at the Oklahoma County Jail, according to jail records.

Court records paint a gruesome scene at a Nichols Hills home early Monday, when a 9-year-old boy was found stabbed to death, allegedly by his father.

Dr. Stephen P. Wolf, 51, is accused of murder in the death of Tommy Wolf.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with Oklahoma County District Court, Nichols Hills officers were called to 1715 Elmhurst Ave. just before 4 a.m. Monday. When they arrived, a woman could be heard saying, "He's killing my son. He's killing my son."

That woman was later identified by police as Mary Wolf, wife of Stephen Wolf and mother of Tommy Wolf.

An officer found Stephen Wolf wrestling with his son in the kitchen and saying, "He's got the devil in him, and you know it."

Police said the boy had a pair of obvious stab wounds but that the father stood up and said, "He's not dead," before reaching for a knife to continue the assault. An officer struggled with Wolf but was able to place him into custody.

A neighbor told police that Wolf -- a doctor of internal medicine -- was under review at a local hospital for "anger issues" and that he was supposed to go to a rehabilitation facility "for the anger plus drug and alcohol abuse."

Wolf is being held at the Oklahoma County Jail pending filing of a formal murder charge.

Knife, Gun... Officer's Gun wins! I agree. He should have been shot. Officers arresting him showed remarkable restraint if all he got was that cut on his forehead.
