Trial Begins for OH Police Chief in Parker/Broderick Surrogate Case |

PEOPLE MARTIN'S FERRY, OHIO This week sees the start of the criminal trial of one of two Ohio police chiefs accused of breaking into the home of the surrogate mother for Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick's twins and trying to sell her personal belongings to a freelance photographer.
"On a daily basis, on an hourly basis, I am greatly concerned for her health and safety and the safe delivery of our children," Parker, 44, said in May, shortly after the arrests.
The scandal rocked the hometown of Michelle Ross, who gave birth to the Parker's and Broderick's twin daughters on June 22 at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martin's Ferry, Ohio.
Martin's Ferry Chief of Police Barry P. Carpenter, 40, faces the brunt of the charges, which includes burglary, receiving stolen property and tampering with evidence. If convicted on all counts, the defendant faces up to 21 years in prison and fines totaling $45,000.
According to the criminal indictment, Carpenter and Bridgeport Police Chief Chad M. Dojack, 29, met with a photographer last May and offered items such as a poem, photos, legal documents about the surrogacy agreement, pictures of ultrasounds, and a cell-phone picture of a belly cast. The photographer reportedly alerted the surrogacy agency, which reported the thefts to police. Dojack's trial is scheduled for January.
Parker and Broderick's twin girls were born to the surrogate in June.
