Police arrested a man on Sunday after they found his elderly mother naked and covered in feces. The woman was apparently living in deplorable conditions in a home filled with with trash waste.

Police were called to the home on the 2900 block of Northeast First Avenue investigating reports of smoke. When they came upon the scene they did not discover fire but were shocked at what they found. Officers came upon a startled 40-year-old Paris Martz who then took off and led police on a short chase.

It was during this commotion that Martz's 78-year-old mother emerged from the home naked and covered in feces. Fort Lauderdale fire-rescue responders took her to Holy Cross Hospital for evaluation.

According to a release from Wilton Manors police Martz is being charged with elderly neglect, battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest without violence.

Upon entering the home officers found trash, newspapers, and other refuse stacked along the walls creating narrow barely passable pathways. The Wilton Manors Code Enforcement Department and police are investigating.
