Conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh says President Barack Obama’s plan to control healthcare is a pivotal point in his quest to control every aspect of Americans' lives.

Limbaugh, appearing Thursday on NBC’s “Jay Leno Show,” said the Democratic plan will regulate everything that affects healthcare costs, right down to what Americans should eat, drink, and drive.

“We've got enough mistakes the federal government runs,” Limbaugh said. “We don't need to compound it with more programs. The market will take care of it[self] . . . there's no reason to turn it all upside down.”

The ulterior motive behind the Democratic plan to take over healthcare concerns Limbaugh the most.

“Forget the intricacies of healthcare,” he said. “If the government gets control of healthcare, that's the single best way that they get to control every aspect of our lives: what we eat, what we drive. It all will have an impact on healthcare costs — their responsibility via our taxes — and it's just a mechanism whereby government grows and grows and grows and we lose liberty and freedom to it. That's the single best way they get to control every aspect of our lives."

Limbaugh recalled the 2008 campaign, when Obama promised he would usher in a new utopia in America: no partisanship, no more red state/blue states — a post-racist with no more racial acrimony.

Instead, “Look at how divided this country is right now," he said. Obama’s "approval numbers are plummeting. People who voted for him did not think this is what they were going to get. Tell Obama, ‘No, we don’t want you owning car companies; no, we don’t want you running the banks; no, we don't want you taking over student loans; and, no, we don’t want nationalized healthcare.’"

The government should let the market take its course instead of bailing out segments such as the auto industry. “Let them do bankruptcy first, or go out of business. That's just the way it works. We haven't saved them; we saved the unions.”

Limbaugh chided Obama for what he called his “five-minute career” in which the president “never [ran] a business and is now running [a] car company.

“You know more about [running a car company] than he does,” Limbaugh told Leno. “You own more cars than Obama's ever seen. Just because General Motors goes under, it doesn't mean people can't buy cars. People already weren't buying the cars for a reason. The market will fix itself for people far better than a bunch of people in Washington with no experience in it, tinkering in it and trying to control it.

The $700 billion the government disbursed in the Troubled Asset Relief Program was a giant scam, Limbaugh said.

"If we don't give them $700 billion in the next 24 hours, the world financial system will crash," he deadpanned. Now, "we're hearing that if we don't do healthcare by August, the healthcare system will crash. No, we didn't need to give them $700 billion.”

The biggest problem the nation faces now, Limbaugh said, is the subprime mortgage crisis.

“The Bush administration tried to regulate this and tried to get this brought under control because it made no sense,” he said. “ACORN was out forcing banks — pressuring banks — to lend money to people that couldn't pay it back, all under the guise of, ‘We must have affordable housing.’"

"Letting the market take care of itself" is exactly what led to the mortgage implosion and the car companies going under.

My only issue with the opponets of nationalized healthcare is that they are generally the ones with so much money they don't need health insurance to begin with. Rush could easily bankroll any medical treatment or procedure he could possibly need. I, on the other hand, could be completely destitute if one of my children suddenly developed a chronic illness needing years of treatment. I would be completely bankrupt in spite of my health insurance. I have seen it happen first hand. Very first hand.

Actually, FL deputy, the Dems pressuring mortgage companies to give out the bad loans to risky customers was what caused the housing market to collapse. As for the car companies, talk to the AFL-CIO. They require the car companies to pay thousands of workers to NOT WORK. This is not good business practice.

FLDeputey, we have all seen bad situations. My best friend got laid off last year. His son needs lots of medical treatment for an on-going issue that requires a series of major surgeries. The issue is not whether health care is needed, but how it is provided. The USA currently has THE BEST healthcare in the world. Now, I said the best, not the cheapest! Put government in charge and visiting the doctor will be like a trip to the DOT! There WILL be waiting lines. There WILL be beaurocrats making medical decisions. How do I know this? That is what happens in ALL the other countries that have socialized medicine.

Whoever's at fault, Obama has the right idea. Something's got to give with our healthcare system. Let's say one of your kids graduates or leaves school and is without your insurance for a year. Let's say they don't immediately get a good paying job with health benefits right away. Let's say he or she seriously breaks a leg or arm. I wonder how long it would take you to start screaming for an affordable "public option". When the bills start rolling in you'll wish he or she had it.

My dad died in a V.A. hospital cesspool in '82; if
THAT'S the way the government operates, trust me, you
do not want them dictating health care options to you.

All comments on this issue have merit and I agree a VA style system of healthcare is not what we want. We can do better. We can do better than every other public system in the world because we can learn from their examples and mistakes. That's what progress is all about. We have to try, though. The idea of "Let's stop this nonsense and quit trying to fix the 'Best healthcare system in the world' argument" really bothers me. Our system absolutely needs major improvements. We need tort reform and we need HMO corporate "BEAUROCRATS" to keep their "how is this treatment for this guy's terminal child going to effect our profits" out of their decisions on what treatment is necessary or not.

I don't know why people are so afraid of a healthcare system like Canada. As someone with first hand knowledge I'd like to tell you my opinion. It's great. Not perfect, but pretty damn good. If I get sick, I can go to the hospital and get free medical care, no matter how long I need to be in there. A day, a week, a month or a year. Don't pay a cent.

If my kids develop a disease or have an accident, I take them to the hospital and get their medical needs taken care of. I don't pay a cent. I don't fear going broke, don't fear losing my home. If your wife has a baby? Every visit and the delivery: covered. You don't pay.
If you wonder about the quality of care? It's excellent. I have taken my kids to the emergency a few times and barely had to wait. And the taxes I pay are equivalent to what my U.S. counterparts pay.
All I can tell you is my experience with our healthcare system. And that as the most powerful nation on earth, there is no reason for your country to not have healthcare for everyone.

ProAmor, thank you. Most Americans' opinion of Canadian healthcare is what ultra-conservative mouthpieces here tell them it is. They have no first hand knowledge. When I was in the Army, I worked with a group of Canadians and they all said they were quite happy with their system and were very surprised that ours was so messed up.

FLdeputy...
1. Companies go out of business. It's a thing that happens in free market societies, capitalistic economies, etc... If the unions hadn't bled that company til it was inefficient, and if they made good products, we wouldn't need to bail em out. Someone else will come along and take their place. Life will go on.
2. Democrats in the 90's are responsible for mortgage and foreclosure crisis, as well as people who made stupid decisions when they bought homes they couldn't afford. They inflated the market and drove up the price of the home I bought, but the difference is I made a good loan decision, based on years of good credit decisions, and I'm making my payments.
3. You name ONE ASPECT of our federal government that's run well and efficiently. Thank you. Healthcare won't be the first. Also, explain Canadians coming over here for treatment?? Tumors being elective procedures in Canada? that's what I want.

I agree with Rush. Less government is better government. I have enough yanked from my paycheck to support another family. It's no wonder why people want the government to provide everything for them. Why not. With people like me it only makes sense.
