BOSTON HERALD ABINGTON, MASS. A Boston emergency worker is under arrest after police say he shot two men in Abington in a drunken rage and then gave them treatment to try and save them. Police say Rhys Williams, 41, of Dorchester, is under arrest and will be arraigned today in Brockton District Court. Boston EMS confirmed to the Herald this morning that Williams is a city first-responder who has now been placed on “administrative leave” with pay pending the outcome of his case. “Mr. Rhys Williams has been an EMT with Boston EMS since October 2002, during which time he has saved countless lives and received three informal letters of commendation,” an EMS statement reads. “Mr. Williams was on ‘injured’ leave at the time of the incident.” According to police, two brothers were shot and then given first aid by Williams after a fight erupted at about 7:45 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of North Avenue and Bates Street in Abington. Abington Deputy Police Chief Christopher Cutter said Williams and his alleged victims returned to party in Abington the night before after attending a benefit for another Boston EMS worker who had died unexpectedly. The party lasted through the night and into the morning when the shooting occurred after Williams was asked to leave. Williams is charged with assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlawful discharge of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm while intoxicated.
