UNIONTOWN, PA

A guard at Fayette County's jail is charged with beating an inmate and calling the man a "snitch" in front of other inmates.

State police on Wednesday charged Joseph Yeagley of Uniontown with simple assault, harassment and official oppression for allegedly punching the inmate earlier this month. Police say the inmate's mother alerted them to the alleged assault.

Mr. Yeagley did not immediately return a call for comment at his home today. A hearing on the charges will be set once he receives a summons in the mail.
