Apparently, Detroit resident Renee Lashon Beavers caught the attention of officers when she was pulled over last week on a reported stolen vehicle call. When police approached the 1999 Dodge Stratus to speak with Beavers, they immediately noticed an open can of beer between her legs.  

The damsel in sho 'nuff distress told officers that she had purchased the vehicle from a woman at a shelter in Adrian, Mich. Beavers claimed to have paid the woman $1,000 for the Dodge but failed to mention that she owed yet another $400 on it. When asked to fork over the vehicle's documents for review, police found an unsigned title.

After the officers ran a check on Beavers, they discovered, much to their surprise, that since 1999, the woman has received 45 traffic violations, including driving under the influence and administrative license suspensions (a term for sanctions against folks who lack a license). Beavers was arrested on the spot and charged with driving a stolen vehicle and having an open container of alcohol while driving.

Why hasn't Beavers been arrested before? According to authorities, it was because Detroit and Highland Park police lacked jail space. "It's just a little hole in the system," says Lt. William Wilson of the Ferndale Police Department. "And so, there's the ability to keep skating along like she did."

BTW, this chronic law breaker never even had a driver's license. Sheesh!
