A Rochester man accused of robbing a bank in Irondequoit over the weekend was charged Tuesday after police tracked him down using a traffic ticket he had allegedly dropped as he fled the scene.
Damien Ponder, 27, faces felony charges of third-degree robbery and fourth-degree grand larceny in connection with the robbery at the First Niagara Bank, 1000 E. Ridge Road, about 9:20 a.m. Saturday, said Irondequoit police Sgt. Barry VanNostrand.
Ponder is accused of passing a note, written on the back side of a traffic ticket he had recently received, to a bank clerk and demanding cash.
He is also accused of running from the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and the note.
While leaving, Ponder allegedly dropped the money, collected most of it, but left behind the robbery note, VanNostrand said.
The ticket on which the note was written contained Ponder's name, date of birth and address, and led officers straight to him.
He was apprehended Tuesday in Rochester. He was arraigned in Irondequoit Town Court and was remanded to the Monroe County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
Ponder is slated to return to court for his preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. Friday.
