In the Line of Duty FAQ
- What is In the Line of Duty?
For over a decade, In the Line of Duty has been the leading producer of law enforcement video and, now, internet training. - In keeping with that philosophy, you've also developed programs in REAL bite-sized chunks, haven't you?
Yes. Many law enforcement agencies asked us for much shorter videos to show during roll call, for example; so, we've developed dozens of programs we call "Roll Call Review", which are 7-9 mins. Then, we decided to go even shorter and produced a very popular series called the "Two Minute Warning"; by August, we'll have a brand new series called "What I See" which will be 60 sec. law enforcement video vignettes and analysis. We're always trying to quickly respond to the visual (and audio) training needs of law enforcement. - Then, you're saying law enforcement professionals like to see actual footage and hear from the officers who were involved in that footage?
Absolutely. It's fantastic training. In addition, the programs are edited in 'segments' and with an extremely visual approach; that way, agencies and schools can utilize them in just about any setting or time-frame they wish. We've always been big believers, too, that 'shorter is better', be- cause officers often have very limited time at their disposal. - Could you explain further?
The company has been producing a monthly video training service for law enforcement since 1995; the programs, generally 30-35 minutes, are used by thousands of law enforcement agencies for roll call, in-service and academy training. Hundreds of schools also use the Line of Duty videos in their criminal justice programs, too. - What is the format of the programs?
Very simply, they are reality-based using actual law enforcement- related footage combined with in-depth interviews of the officers who were involved. The coupling of real footage and the actual officers seen in the video footage, makes for the most powerful video training ever produced for law enforcement. This is un- questionably the best means ever produced to share critical "lessons learned" among law enforcement professionals. - Just how many training programs are there in your library currently?
There are approximately 400 programs presently in the library, and we're adding new titles every month. - Do most law enforcement and educational customers purchase the programs on vhs?
No, it's tilted dramatically towards dvd delivery or cd-rom; we're also able to now offer downloadable programs directly from the computer. It means an l.e.a. can literally get our programs at the flick of a mouse; we feel that, within a year or two, the majority of our customers will want programs delivered via download. Therefore, we're working feverishly to get as many programs digitized for downloading as fast as we can. In addition, because downloading is such an 'unfettered' delivery system (no dubbing, shipping, handling costs), we can provide l.e.a.'s with a dramatic discount for purchasing via download. - Are the In the Line of Duty programs approved for P.O.S.T. and other officer-related accreditation and certification?
Absolutely. We've never had an issue with getting our programs approved for accreditation, certification, or re-certification. Most states readily accept proper paperwork and verification that the videos are being watched, assimilated and integrated into a given program. We invite inquiries on this question at any time. Our marketers are well-versed in the differing requirements state-by-state, but, again, we've never really had an issue. Call us at: 1-(800)462-5232 with any questions. - Your website has become nearly as popular with law enforcement as your videos, hasn't it?
Since 1997, In the Line of Duty has had a one-of-a-kind website geared for police; we provide constantly updated law enforcement news and information; our "Blotter" link at lineofduty.com gets millions of 'hits' each month from cops, because they know they can depend on it for news and information they'll get nowhere else. - And, you're now offering free training on the site?
Yes, it's a very exciting opportunity for law enforcement to receive free training and education through a wide variety of links including: "Two Minute Warning"; "Morning Roll Call"; "Calling All Cops"; "Most Harrowing Moment"; and so forth. All they need do to receive the free training and information is fill out a simple registration form. You can check out all the links under the masthead of our new-look website. And, there'll be more to come! - What is "Crimetime"?
"Crimetime" is a free, weekly video or audio webcast we are now offering. It includes a panel of law enforcement experts (and, let me hasten to add, eccentrics) who discuss and analyze all sorts of news from the wild, woolly, weird world of policing. I guarantee you'll have a ball watching it. It's also available as a podcast via Apple's i-tunes. - What's the fastest way for any of your customers or visitors to actually speak with a real person and not a recording?
Our regular business hours are: 7a(Central)-6p(Central); Call us at 1-(800)462-5232. I assure you you'll be met by a live, warm, and courteous response. Law enforcement professionals continue to protect and serve us; I believe it's our responsibility to give THEM as much support as possible, or our civilization is in trouble.
